York and her PhD in Psychology from The University of Queensland in Australia. Her program of research focuses on the psychosocial outcomes from interacting with animals for people, including service animals, therapy animals, and companion animals. She has published several articles and book chapters on human-animal interaction, including for autism spectrum disorder, military veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, and companion animal owners in the community. Her work has been featured in over 250 media outlets worldwide, including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe, and National Public Radio.
